Time to play B-sides…

If anybody knows that lyric, well, yo know how old I am!   There’s nothing more I’d like to have than a little extra “time to play B-sides”  Not in the cards right now though.  Lots of good things happening, lots of new developments along the way….I’lll let y’all know about them as soon as possible… legal has to get ahold and wring the life out of things….  typical business… too many lawyers, not enough bullets.

finally… some work-time…

It’s been weeks……. weeks and weeks!  very frustrating being so inspired to do something and having to judiciously manage time to include more important things….. I guess I’d still be 10 if everything was what i wanted to do and driven by pure inspiration…  anyhow, got the body back on the buck (rotisserie)  mini tubs in, that pesky lower outer wheelhouse replaced, some of the seam welding done (seam welding a unibody car greatly reduces body flex… helps keep the creaks as rattles to a minimum too… at least until stress cracks take the body apart slowly… LOL!)   I’ve talked with some incredibly people lately… very inspiring!  Seeing the pics of Mike and Jim Ring’s latest (70 mustang) in bare steel is incredible… actually seeing ,and driving, the Afterburner Fairlane drives me to complete my car…. having them look at some pics and give me advice is humbling as well….  great guys and I appreciate their friendship and guidance.  Looking foreword to Brian Finch’s help on bodywork as well   OMG!!!!! Dare I have somebody else lay their hands on MY car and de-legitimize my skills????    F*&^% that… Im tired, overwhelmed, and need help and am not afraid to ask for it, accept it and take it.   I want to drive the car as much as I want to work on it….

Trunk view of tubs...

Keep on pushing….

There’s no time there’s no time there’s no time there’s no time…..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a job that I love, a family I love,  and a side p[roject that I love at my shop that I hand built and designed...... that I love... but the days get way and all of a suddent Iwake up and it's the middle of March..... and my car is not done yet!   I had dreams of Power tour, Local Meets, Autocrosses, and braggin rites!  all in good time I guess.  I have been working in sporadic afternoons and stolen hours....  one thing Im happy about is the new rear wheels... there were issues with the (my choice) incorrect wheen backspace and offset..... all this is now corrected with the new 18 by 10 inch Rocket Racing wheels with a 7 inch backspace.  The other things that are coming around are the steering system, driver controls and pedals, as well as a ton of small detail like header and shock clearance, firewall fabrication, and all the small things that beg attention..

all in good time.  I just wish I had more of it.

the hideaway.

Been a while…

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve blogged…. not because I havent done anything to the car or that I’ve been idle… most opposite actually. TRUCKS! is going wide open with great projects and working iwth great peoeple is always inspiring….. getting ready to play another gig next Friday night, and inching along on the Mustang, with sdash in, steering column placed, driver controls almost buttoned down, and I’m really really close to being able to run fuel lines and start laying in the electrical system.   SO……  will I get it finished before the summers end car rallies, and autocrosses, and most importantly ready for my drive across thecountryto Vegas for the annual SEMA convention?        Send out some good vibes for me… I’ll need all the help I can get!

KT.

new and old….

Is anything really new?   I dont think so….. nothing that’s done hasn’t been done before,  nothing that’s said hasnt been said before, and every perspective has been looked at a million times….   sound a tad morose?  well here’s my response to that, which has taken me my lifetime to intellectualize…

” Nobody has ever seen anything through my eyes….. and although the same works may have been spoken, the same conclusion drawn,   nobody has had the life experience that I’ve earned and colored my conclusions with the same hues and shades…. thereby making my words, deeds, actions, projects and legacy mine and mine alone”

If that sounds a tad selfish, take my personalization out ofit, because that statement is truly universal, and what makes us all valid, and all ofour input and perspective  worth speaking and hearing.

So— what dows this have to do with my Mustang?   Check this out!  It’s a2004 Cobra dash and center console stuffed into my ‘66 Coupe!!!!!

Just like a child…

Morning coffe steaming, dogs satisfied for the moment with breakfast, frost melting on the truck that’s loaded with miscellaneous “stuff” that needs to be moved from the home garage, and It’s loke it’s my birthday…. I cant wait to get to the shop and see where to pick up on LPGT.  What will probably happen is that the chassis, body and engine will come together again for marking out the hydroboost brake master and quickly dissasembled again for actual mounting.  Then its on to the Cobra dash…. then the other side lights, then….   well, more later.

Thanks for the reminder Graham…

I guess i should show some kind of a build plan… thanks for the reminder Graham!

Synopsis: LPGT

The car is my 1966 Coupe that started life as a 6 cyl, 3 speed car and ended up in my shop as a rust bucket. It’s graced the pages of several articles in “Mustang & Fords” as well as “Mustang Monthly” on tech stories such as: No-Weld Cowl vent repair with PBA adhesives, Basic Bodyshop Tools, Full floor Replacement, and the E2 Fiberglass kit from Mustang Depot.

The build plan for the LPGT utilizes the geometric and structural advantages of the “MUSCLE UP PERFORMANCE” http://www.muscleupperformance.com/ full frame mandrel bent chassis, that features rack & pinion steering, triangulated for link rear, coil over suspension, Nascar style anti roll bars, Hydro boost COBRA brake system, 13 inch rotors, 9 inch Chrome Molly rear axel assembly, and a freshened 2004 Terminator Supercharged & tuned 4.6 Mod Motor backed by a T-56 6 speed. It will roll on 18 by 10 inch 5 spoke wheels out back with 18 by 9 in front, wrapped in 285 35 18 inch tires. Body mods will include 2006 GT headlamps, Fiberglass hood, deck lid, front valance and side exit exhaust borrowed from the E2 kit , as well as LED Shelby taillights & other custom features. This vehicle will be dual-fuel, powered by gasoline and propane, with 600 HP at the rear wheels. Scheduled completion date is summer of 2010.

LPGT rendering

Steve Longacre lent his talents and helped my create a digital goal for the ‘Stang.  So far I’m able to actually recreate the look and feel of these renderings, and it should be pretty close when its a finished car.

Thanks Steve!

Now I have to finish it!  I’ve got some time off, so more progress to come!

Images…

I’m still figuring the management side of the blog out…. placing images in the order in which I actually want them displayed seems to be a challenge.  I hate thinking backwards! LOL!

If that’s all I have to worry about I guess Im good.

all for now. KT out.

more progress? (Does that sound redundant?)

One of the only areas of original metal left is the firewall, unfortunately, it was hacked beyond repair. I wanted to clean up the underhood visuals, so I used scrap 20 gauge to smoothe my firewall. 20 gauge is strong enough that if you space out your welds warpage is minimal

I wanted to clean up the underhood visuals, so I used scrap 20 gauge to smoothe my firewall. 20 gauge is strong enough that if you space out your welds warpage is minimal using fiberglass scraps, tape, and grey bomb can primer, I can get an idea of what the finished shape will look like.... the real challenge is goingto be getting the opposite side to match perfectly. that

in matching the contour and angle of the new 06 GT headlight I took the plunge and started slicing with a tape guide to match the aggressive profile of the light. Then, using aluminum tig wire, made a framework based on the shape I wanted to see.
